I worked at BD in the 80’s and Mr. Blakeman was an awesome Plant Manager. He cared deeply for the employees and their families. He mentored many of us to be better employees and better human beings! Have cherished memories of my years at BD!
I had the privilege of meeting Gary (Mr. Blakeman as we always addressed him) in 1980 when he came to Sumter as Plant Manager for BD. I worked for him for many of the years he was at BD. Gary was a great leader and a great mentor. I along with countless others can thank Gary for spending the time to develop our skills and guide us throughout our careers. After he retired, Gary and I became friends for the last 18 years of his life. Gary was more like a father figure to me as I always ask him for advice. The 100's of people who did/have worked at BD along with the city of Sumter can thank Gary for the contributions he made to make both a better place.
