Obituary of Dorothy "Chip" Stokes

Dorothy “Chip” Gatling Stokes, 74, died Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Quinton Gatling and Emma Raffield Gatling. Mrs. Stokes was a member of St. Mark’s Methodist Church and was a retired Social Worker with the Department of Social Services. Surviving is a daughter, Jessica Wingard (Gerald) and a granddaughter, Emma Kaye Wingard all of Sumter. She was preceded in death by a sister, Diane Kerenick. Memorial services will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Rev. Wes Conner officiating. The family will receive friends at the home, 922 Trailmore Circle.
