Obituary of Manford Garris

Manford Garris, 80, widower of Betty Wells Garris to whom he was married for 50 years, died Sunday, December 24, 2023, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Bradford and Lois Lawrence Garris. Mr. Garris was a member of Providence Baptist Church, a U. S. Navy veteran and was employed at Waste Management. He worked with book binding, printing gospel tracts, and was an avid fisherman. He loved God, his family, friends and his dog Buckwheat. Surviving are three brothers, William “Butch” Garris, Glen Garris, and Timothy Garris; two daughters, Carol Hinchliffe Collins and Cathy Hinchliffe (David Barry); two granddaughters, Jessica Collins Riles (Jody) and Amanda Collins Heffington (J.R.); a great-granddaughter, Audrey Brianna Cruzan; three great-grandsons, Brandon Barkley (Kierra), Austin Riles and James Hyde; a great-great-granddaughter, Samara Michelle Taylor. He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Garris and a granddaughter, Amanda Taylor Rhodes. Funeral Services will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday, December 28, 2023, in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne McElveen officiating. Burial will be in the Pinewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 P.M. to 2 P.M. Thursday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
