Our sincere condolences to Mrs. Simpson and the entire Simpson family on the passing of Carl. He was a true southern gentleman who always had time for a friendly chat. We hope that the family can find some solace in wonderful memories of a life well-lived. "Grief is just an abundance of love with no where to go"

Guess, I'm a little late catching this on FB from the Item. A Sad time for Sumter, but a great time for Carl where he is now overseeing more than ever and no doubt taking care of Business. Met both Carl and Cathy back in the 60s for my go-to place down the street from Dad's house, easy and full of knowledge to get it quick, competitive, and fast. Both of these dear people not only were knowledgeable but also super friendly making the Simpsons a well-liked business to shop in daily if needed. He not only tried that bunch of his kids but all the other teens who were fortunate to work there and learn manners, products, and social skills. He will be missed by all who knew him and those less fortunate who missed the chance, God Bless the Simpson Family and Stores!
Love,
Ben & Crystal

Mr. Simpson was a wonderful, caring man with a beautiful family who will be so missed by many! I remember many discussions with him between the store and in Palmetto Veterinary Clinic. Although I left Sumter in 2015, most of my life was there and I have many wonderful memories of so many. My heart goes out to the family, and I pray all. Thank God we know where he is today and will be watching you all until you meet again... Godspeed

I am grateful for the lessons learned from Mr. Simpson. I worked for him while in high school and college in the late 70's and early 80's. Not only did he provide me with a check to help pay for most of my college education but I learned a lot about dealing with people and most important how to listen. There were a lot of great folks at the hardware store that I enjoyed working with as well. I will be praying for the family and employees as they are going through this time.

My heart goes out to Cathy and the family. I had known Carl for a very long time although I have been away from Sumter for many years. When I did get a chance to be there, I would try to stop by the store and say hello. He was certainly a good man.

Dearest Cathy and family,
We were so saddened to hear of Carl's passing. He was such a wonderful asset to the Sumter business community as well as a super friend. I must say Warren and I loved to go to Simpson’s as did the children even after they moved from Sumter .When they came to visit they always made a visit. So glad that your children can carry on the Sumter tradition that is Simpson’s Hardware.
I am keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. Much love, Nancy Smith and family
