Gwen McMillan DuRant, 63, of Florence, SC passed away at home, surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday May 15th. Mrs. DuRant was born the daughter of the late Marvin E. McMillan and Gwenelle Johnson McMillan of Sumter, SC. She graduated from Wilson Hall in 1979 where she was a friend to many. While in her youth she was a cheerleader, played the piano beautifully and competed in several pageants. For the last 24 years she served as a financial assistant in ministry at Highland Park United Methodist Church and most recently First Presbyterian Church of Florence. Gwen was loved by many in her community where she has made a lasting impact on those she knew and met. Those who knew her would say she is kind, encouraging, supportive and always had the ability to make you smile or laugh. Of all her accomplishments her greatest was being a mother to Babs and Drake, and she was her husband, Chris’ biggest supporter. She was, to Walker and Murray, the best Gigi. She had a strong and loving bond with her siblings and their spouses. Surviving are Husband, Christopher C. DuRant of Florence, SC; Daughter, Babs DuRant Neumann (Brian) of Hilton Head Island, SC; Son, Christopher Drake DuRant (Erin) of Florence, SC; Grandchildren, Walker and Murray Neumann; Brother, Marvin E. “Chip” McMillan Jr. of (Kelley) of Sumter, SC; Sisters, Beth McMillan Green (Bob) of Duncan, SC and Mindy McMillan Creekmore (Brock) of Monroe, GA; Stepmother, Martha Shirley McMillan of Easley, SC and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends and family from 1:00 – 2:00 PM, on Friday, May 31, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church of Florence.
