Obituary of William Edward Timmons

Mr. William Edward “Billy” Timmons went home to be with his Lord and rejoin his wife, Jean G. Timmons on Saturday morning, August 10th, 2024, at the age of 94. A native of Sumter, Mr. Timmons was born on June 8th, 1930, to the late Alex & Harriett Sims Timmons. He was a proud member of the United States Navy, serving during the Korean War. Billy was an active member of Forest Hills Independent Baptist Church and as long as he was able, participated in many church activities. He was a Sunday School teacher and Missions Treasurer for many years. He owned and operated Southern Business Machines in Hartsville, where he sold and worked on office machines and sold office furniture until retirement. He loved going to auctions and ballgames, especially the ones his children and grandchildren participated in. Survivors include his children: Margaret (Bobby) Sowell of Hartsville, Richard Timmons of West Columbia, and Eddie (Marie) Timmons of Hartsville; grandchildren: Rich (Heather) Timmons of Lexington, MSGT Will (Margaret) Timmons of Alexandria, VA, Ginger Hess of Hartsville, Ashley (Shawn) Mangum of Monroe, NC, Brooke (Darryl) Powell of Hartsville, Teale (Justin) Lupo of Little River, Kaycie (Mason) White of Lamar, Beth (Jonathan) Larymore of Hartsville, Robby (Madyson) Sowell of Hartsville; 16 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; also surviving are his nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Charles, Thomas, Eunice, Blanche, and Marie. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 on Monday morning, August 12th, 2024, from Forest Hills Independent Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Murray officiating. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A graveside service will follow at 2 PM on Monday in Sumter Cemetery. *For those attending the graveside service, please look for the Elmore-Hill-McCreight tents.* Memorials may be made to Forest Hills Independent Baptist Church at 317 Forest Hills Drive, Hartsville, SC 29550.
