Obituary of Inge F. Bettencourt

Inge F. Bettencourt, 87, widow of Richard P. Bettencourt, passed away on October 12, 2024, at Prisma Health Richland. Born in Germany on May 20, 1937, she was the daughter of Jakob and Maria Fuchs. She is survived by her son, Anthony Bettencourt (Julie) of Sumter; daughter, Andrea Weatherford of Sumter; daughter, Carol Hodge (Ray) of Manning; 9 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Craig Weatherford. Known affectionately as the German Cat Lady, she dedicated the last 40 years of her life to the rescue and care of stray and abandoned animals. She was a strong advocate of spaying and neutering pets, and actively TNRed until the loss of her sight 10 years ago. No memorial is planned at this time as she chose to be cremated. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in her name to the SPCA, Windy Ridge Rescue or a rescue of your choice.
