Obituary of Carol Tompkins Curry

Carol Tompkins Curry, 63, died Friday, December 20, 2024, at her home. Born in Tripoli, Africa, she was a daughter of the late James Edward Tompkins and Elnor Patricia Ballard Tompkins. Mrs. Curry was a member of Ashwood Church of the Nazarene, and she was a hair stylist and the retired owner and operator of Style Makers in Sumter. She was a 1979 graduate of Salem Academy where she was voted “Most Wittiest” a characteristic, she maintained throughout her life in addition to a passion for her animals. Surviving is her husband, Robert David Curry; a son, Robert Jason Curry (Tori) of Sumter; four sisters, Selina T. Barkley of Bishopville, Debbie T. Waynick of Sumter, Ginger Tompkins and Karla Rose both of Charleston; two nieces, Kyndall Waynick and Lauren Barkley; one nephew, Brandon Barkley (Amanda) of Bishopville; numerous beloved great nieces and nephews; one special brother, Michael Cochran; two special grandchildren, Lawson and Davis Whitaker. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Mike Barkley. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4 P.M. Monday at Ashwood Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Brandon Barkley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service 3 P.M. to 4 P.M. Monday at the church and other times at the home of her sister, Debbie Waynick.
