Carol Tompkins Curry, 63, died Friday, December 20, 2024, at her home. Born in Tripoli, Africa, she was a daughter of the late James Edward Tompkins and Elnor Patricia Ballard Tompkins. Mrs. Curry was a member of Ashwood Church of the Nazarene, and she was a hair stylist and the retired owner and operator of Style Makers in Sumter. She was a 1979 graduate of Salem Academy where she was voted “Most Wittiest” a characteristic, she maintained throughout her life in addition to a passion for her animals. Surviving is her husband, Robert David Curry; a son, Robert Jason Curry (Tori) of Sumter; four sisters, Selina T. Barkley of Bishopville, Debbie T. Waynick of Sumter, Ginger Tompkins and Karla Rose both of Charleston; two nieces, Kyndall Waynick and Lauren Barkley; one nephew, Brandon Barkley (Amanda) of Bishopville; numerous beloved great nieces and nephews; one special brother, Michael Cochran; two special grandchildren, Lawson and Davis Whitaker. She was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Mike Barkley. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4 P.M. Monday at Ashwood Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Brandon Barkley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service 3 P.M. to 4 P.M. Monday at the church and other times at the home of her sister, Debbie Waynick. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Ashwood Church of the Nazarene Children’s Fund, 2145 Green Lane, Bishopville, SC 29010.
