Thomas Chandler “Cat” Johnson, 61, widower of Betty Jeanette Mitchum, passed away Saturday April 9, 2016, at Palmetto Health Tuomey. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late James Olin and Mattie Irene Tolson Johnson. Thomas was a master mechanic, he could fix anything with a motor and was the type of person who would do anything he could for anybody and everybody. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and PaPa that loved spending time with his family. He is survived by a son, Bubba Johnson (Candace Carter); two daughters, Beverly Mitchum (Brett Walston), and Tammy Mitchum (James “Andy” Geddings); two brothers, Donald Johnson and Paul Johnson; three sisters, Barbara Geddings, Miriam Windham, and Kathy Johnson; nine grandchildren, Shane Mitchum, Bethany Samuels, Christopher Samuels, Mattie Mitchum, Kayla Walston, Tyler Walston, Courtney Mitchum, Brittany Carter, and Tommy Mitchum, Jr.; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Brayden. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Delmar Johnson, Errol Johnson, and Clarence “Big Red” Johnson. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 17, 2016 in the chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Reverend Betty Gainey officiating. Burial will follow in Green Acres Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bubba Johnson, Tyler Walston, James “Andy” Geddings, Brett Walston, Brett Siegel, Justin Bramlett, Shane Mitchum, and Dylan Evans. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 Saturday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at 10 Walton Street, Sumter, 29150.
