Ruth Thompson Richburg, wife of the late James Blanding Richburg, passed away yesterday after a long illness. Ruth was the daughter of the late Walter James and Irene Allen Thompson. Ruth treasured the time she spent with her family. She will be remembered as a loving sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Ruth was a devout member of the First Methodist Church of Sumter, teaching Sunday School for 45 years, Vacation Bible School for 30 years and serving on the Church’s board as Secretary. Her career started after graduating from Edmunds High School in Sumter, SC, working for local companies as a bookkeeper. She joined her husband in 1965, creating J.B. Richburg, Inc., a company they ran together until 2008. She is survived by her daughter's Teresa Richburg Garvey and her husband James J. Garvey and Elizabeth Richburg Levin and her husband Samuel M. Levin; grandchildren James Blanding Levin, William Nathan Levin, Joseph Cochran Garvey and Jane Lawrence Garvey; her siblings John L. Thompson , Betty Prescott, May Lineberger, Frank Thompson, Kay Sprowls and Charles Thompson  and the late Walter J. Thompson and William E. Thompson. Graveside services will be held at 10 A.M. Saturday at Sumter Cemetery with Rev. Ellison Evans officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
