Obituary of Jennings W. Pope

Jennings William Pope, 83, widower of Shirley Mae Anderson Pope, died Tuesday, July 12, 2016. Born in Darlington, he was a son of the late Laverne Lewis and Lila Mae Jones Pope. Mr. Pope attended New Testament Lighthouse Church. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired from the SC Army Guard and was later employed by Charles Hodge Trucking Company. He is survived by his two sons, Jerry Pope (Michele) and Timothy Pope (Rosemary); six brothers; three sisters, eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday in the Chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Parnell and Mary Watford officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be Bill Atkinson, Eddie Pope, Chris Parnell, Michael Parker, Randy Odom and Jamie Odom. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. Friday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 2010 Columbia Circle.
