Dorothy L. Kinney Reynolds, 91, died peacefully on Monday, July 18, 2016, at HarborChase of Aiken Assisted Living Facility in Aiken, SC.
Born in the Brogdon-Graham community of Sumter County, she was the youngest daughter of the late John Edward "Ned" Kinney and the late Judith Leanna Brunson Kinney.
She was married to John W. Kerrigan (deceased), of West Stockbridge, MA, and later to Col Pleasant Gee “P.G.” Reynolds, Jr., USAF (Ret), (deceased) of Sumter. She traveled far and wide from Sumter during her rich and active life, living in Mexico, Canada, United Kingdom and Thailand as well as eight states. Her life as a military wife provided numerous opportunities to travel extensively throughout Europe, Southeast Asia and the USA and to make friends around the world, however; Sumter SC was always home. She was very active with the Sumter County Genealogical Society, serving as President, Archivist and volunteer and by all accounts, knew the family history of everyone in Sumter County. She never lost her love of the Brogdon-Graham community or Sumter.
She epitomized the Kinney family work ethic throughout her lifetime, from her volunteer work in Sumter to work for the American Red Cross in Thailand during the Vietnam War and from sales positions at Brody’s Department store in Sumter to serving as a licensed broker and real estate agent in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law – John W. (Deborah) Kerrigan, Jr., Thomas E. (Patricia) Reynolds and David L. (Suzanne) Reynolds; three grandchildren – Thomas Jr (Sarah), Sydnie V. and Taylor M. Reynolds; and two great grandchildren – LilliAnna K. and Wyatt T. Reynolds and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was blessed to have close friends and support from Melissa Altman and Sandy Lackey during her years in Aiken.
She was predeceased by four sisters - Ruby Kinney Breeden, Ethel Mae Kinney, Gussie Kinney Slocum and Margie Leanna Kinney, and three brothers - John Wilbur Kinney, Julius Belden Kinney and Thomas Joseph Kinney.
