Obituary of Margaret E. Cockerill

Margaret Evelyn Cockerill, 81, died Sunday, September 18, 2016, at Palmetto Health Tuomey. Born in Sumter, April 16, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Noah Irby Cockerill, Sr. and Retha Hodge Cockerill Flood. Miss Cockerill was a lifelong member of Providence Baptist Church. Margaret lived at Radcliff Group Home for many years. She enjoyed being there and loved all the wonderful people of the Disabilities and Special Needs, her caretakers and housemates. She enjoyed the game of Yahtzee, jigsaw puzzles, old TV shows and the Atlanta Braves. Surviving are a brother, William M. Cockerill, Sr. (Betty) of Sumter; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Noah Irby Cockerill, Jr. and Robert D. Cockerill; three sisters, Norine Giles, Melba McCall and Susie M. Scurry. Funeral Services will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday at Providence Baptist Church with Pastor Pat Coffey and Pastor Wayne McElveen officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 A.M. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews. Memorials may be made to the Providence Baptist Church Building Fund, 2445 Old Manning Road, Sumter, SC 29150.
