Retired U. S. Air Force M/Sgt. William “Bill” Hubbard, 85, widower of Betty Benton Hubbard, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving daughters on Friday, September 30, 2016 in Charleston, SC. Mr. Hubbard was born on April 26, 1931 in Gardner, Massachusetts. Mr. Hubbard was a member of First Baptist Church of Sumter. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. He was a proud veteran of Korea and Vietnam and served as a meteorologist with the U. S. Air Force and later with Civil Service. Surviving are two daughters, Stephanie H. Irick (Ron) of Ridgeville and Lisa H. Jacobs (Russell) of Atlanta, GA; one brother, Robert Hubbard of Hubbardston, MA; four grandchildren, Josh Irick, Katie Irick, Veronica Jacobs and Tyler Jacobs. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Frederic and Amy Veronica Bankowski Hubbard. Memorial Services will be held at 12 noon Thursday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Barber and Rev. Charles Clanton officiating. Burial will be in the Ft. Jackson National Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home one hour prior to the service. If you wish, the family requests donations to the First Baptist Church of Sumter, The American Heart Association, or the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
