Obituary of Henry Lee Lowder

Henry Lee Lowder 88, husband of Bessie McCutchen Lowder, died Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at Palmetto Health Tuomey.

 

Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Thomas Marion and Jessamine Skipper Lowder. 

 

He and Bess were married for 64 years and loved their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  They were the joy of his life.  He was known for his many talents.  He was an artist, musician and loved country music and fishing. 

 

Mr. Lowder was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Oswego and the John Edens Bible Class.  He was retired from Georgia Pacific and served in the SC National Guard. 

 

Surviving are his wife of Oswego; one daughter, Jenifer Lowder Boykin (Allen) of Lake Wateree; two sons, Henry Lee Lowder, Jr. (Tammy) of Oswego and Marvin Dewitt Lowder of Surfside Beach; three grandchildren including Caroline Spivey (Jonathan), Willis Henry Boykin (Rebecca) and Charles Lee Lowder; four great-grandchildren, Boykin and William Spivey and Olivia and Andy Boykin.  Also surviving are his brother, Wayne Lowder of Columbia; three sisters, Nell McDaniel of Sumter, Ann Harrison (Walt) of Phoenix, AZ and Nancy Kerlin (Tom) of Knoxville, TN. 

 

He was predeceased by brothers, Thomas Marion, Jr., Houston, Marvin, Walter and Wiley Lowder. 

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday at Bethel United Methodist Church, Oswego with the Rev. Tim Whited, Rev. Steve McCormick and Rev. Larry Brown officiating.

 

Burial will be in the church cemetery. 

 

Pallbearers will be Stanley Lowder, Michael Lowder, Bobby Lowder, Les McDaniel, Jamie Burns and Randy Cubbage. 

 

Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the John Edens Bible Class and Mark Lowder. 

 

The family will receive friends from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. Thursday in Little Bethel prior to the service and other times at the home.
