Obituary of Laura Jean McCathern

Laura Jean Reynolds McCathern, 88, widow of Chalmers O. McCathern Jr., died Monday, May 13, 2019 at The Gardens at Sumter.

 

Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Pleasant Gee Reynolds and Sarah Ruth Lambert Reynolds.

 

Mrs. McCathern was member of Dalzell Baptist Church.  She was retired from Craig Industries.

 

Surviving are two sons, Chalmers Edward McCathern (Gretchen) of Elliott and Christopher Bryan McCathern of Manning; one daughter, Sandra M. Callender of Columbia; one brother, Everett Reynolds of Olympia, WA; one sister, Diane Galloway of Sumter; one grandchild, Leslie Anne McCathern.

 

She was preceded in death by a son, Michael O. McCathern; two brothers, Bruce Reynolds, Pleasant G. Reynolds, Jr. and two sisters, Evelyn Bowers and Florence Bailey.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Friday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Barnett officiating.

 

Private burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends 10 to 11 AM Friday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.

 

Memorials may be made to Dalzell Baptist Church, 3645 Camden Hwy., Dalzell, SC 29040 or to a charity of one’s choice.
