Obituary of Robert Ardis

Robert Ashwood Ardis, Sr., 81, husband of the late Sandra Elizabeth Bishop Ardis, died December 20, 2019 at Prisma Health Tuomey in Sumter. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Henry Russell Ardis and the late Mary Pearl Files Ardis. He was a retired welder and owner of Ardis Machine Shop. He was a member of New Salem Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He is survived by 3 sons, Robert Ashwood “Ashley” Ardis, Jr. (Minnie Sue) of Sumter, Russell Mark Ardis (Melissa) of Lexington and Curtiss Michael Rivet (Liset) of Jacksonville, FL; 4 daughters, Sandra D. “Sandy” Sinner (Curtis) of Sumter, Scarlett M. Layne ( Aaron) of Manning, Robbin Rivet Halter (Rick) of Beverly Hills, FL and Renee Herring (Joe) of Niceville, FL; 23 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Stanford Ardis; a sister, Patricia Hines; 3 grandchildren, Joshua Erick Sinner, Robert Ashwood Ardis III and John Henry Timmons III. A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Dr. Kevin Massey officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Saturday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of his son Ashley.
