Edith Jenkins Tipton 1935-2020 Edith Jenkins Tipton ended her earthly journey and entered into eternal life on June 20, 2020. Edith was born on December 13, 1935 in Robbinsville, NC, a daughter of Edward Jenkins and Mae Bowers Jenkins. She grew up in Robbinsville and Forest City, NC. She married Alvin Tipton, her beloved husband of 46 years. They lived in Spindale, NC and later moved to Matthews, NC where together they owned and operated businesses in Matthews and Surfside Beach, SC. They later retired to the Surfside Beach area. Edith was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and had a deep faith in Jesus Christ that sustained her throughout her life. She played piano and was a music lover, an interest shared by her whole family. Her interests were broad and she could explore anything endlessly if it was something her children and grandchildren enjoyed. She enjoyed needlework and made many beautiful crochet pieces. Edith had a big heart for animals, and especially loved her many dogs over the years, including her most recent companion, Lucy. In 2001, Edith moved to Manning SC to a lakeside community where she enjoyed many wonderful friends and the beauty of nature. She was a kind and caring neighbor to many. She is survived by her sons, The Rev. Canon Tommy H. Tipton (E’Lane), and J. Timothy Tipton (Sarah), grandchildren Tommy H. Tipton II, William T. Tipton, and Lilly H. Tipton, and great-granddaughter Roxanne L. Tipton. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Alvin Tipton. A memorial service will be held at a future date. Memorials may be made to the Sumter SPCA, 1140 S. Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC 29150, or the charity of one’s choice.
