Betty Jo Berry Buchanan Emore arrived into this world August 12, 1935 and departed March 14, 2021.
She had a long and full life filled with triumphs and disappointments, loves and losses but always handled with dignity and love everything that God shared with her. Her faith in Jesus Christ was deep and she believed in the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
Her family was most important to her and she was predeceased by her parents, Arthur Joseph Berry and Virgie Gunn Berry; two sisters, Nina Louise Pittman and Mary Alice Simpson; three brothers, James Arthur Berry, Franklin Delano Berry and Johnny Dale Berry; her husband, Donald Gary Dearman Buchanan; their infant son, Donald Maurice Buchanan; and an ex-husband, Melvin L. Emore.
She is survived by her daughter, Theresa Dearman Buchanan, her granddaughter, Rachel Dearman Gunn Buchanan; her future son-in-law, Daniel Dow; numerous nieces and nephews; her beloved dog, Twinkle, and her granddog, Beanie Weenie.
Her employment life was lengthy and varied, beginning at the Sumter Cut Rate Drug Store and Fountain when she was about 15 years old and ending with retirement from the SC Department of Social Services.
