Obituary of George Thomas Jacoby

Major George Thomas Jacoby, Retired, 75, passed away peacefully at home on July 27, 2021, in Sumter, SC, surrounded by loved ones. Family and friends are invited to the visitation, which will begin on July 30, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home in Sumter, SC. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at a later date and time TBD at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Alabama. George was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Lillie and James Albert Jacoby on June 28, 1946. He went on to earn degrees from LSU-New Orleans (New Orleans, LA) and also from Columbus College (Columbus, GA). As an RN, he worked for several decades in various medical capacities, but he was very proud to have served in the US Army Military Intelligence and US Air Force Medical Group for over 20 years. He is remembered for his quick wit, gentle spirit, infectious laughter, and sage advice. George is survived by children Amy Jacoby (Bill), Jenny Jacoby (Scotty), December Jacoby (Megan) and their mother Bonnie C. Jacoby, and Carly Jacoby and her mother Ginger Jacoby; siblings Jimmie Alice Kelly (George) and Deanna Weaver (Guss); grandchildren Annie Ayers and Arthur Ayers; and a wonderful plethora of cousins, nieces, nephews, and family by choice. He is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved Dachshund, Buddy. Memorial donations may be made to Sumter SPCA, 1140 S. Guignard Dr., Sumter, SC 29150 (803) 773-9292.
