The Stern Family:
We are saddened to learn of Mr. Abe's passing but so filled with great memories of his humor, stories and generous nature.
Mr. Abe was a man who lived each day with a real concern for others and he knew that character and compassion were
the secrets to success. My family enjoyed shopping each school year in his store. Thank God he was given a long and fruitful life
so he could share his smile and joy with this community. We are all better because we knew him.
Sending our thoughts and prayers,
Chip Finney for the Finney Family

To the Family of Abraham Stern,
Some of my siblings worked for Mr. Stern. I bought lots of clothing and shoes from him. To our family, Abe was far more than a merchant. He was a dear friend. I was really pleased to have twice taken him fishing, in Sparkleberry Swamp, Rimini, SC. On those two trips, we had a great time and he had the joy of going fishing in places that he had only heard of for years.
Having such a kind, honest, loving, gentleman as my friend was an honor and a blessing for me. He will continue to be missed by many.
In loving memory,
Allen Way

As I sat with your family over Zoom yesterday, I could feel so much love emanating for Abe. I learned things about him that I had not known before. I'll always remember his genuine kindness towards my daughter and believed he truly cared for both of us. I see his qualities live on through his daughter Donna, grandson Mark, and granddaughter Abi. I feel blessed to have known and learned from him during my time in Columbia. Abe, if you see this, please thank Rhea for sharing you with my Sarah <3

Abe was one of my father's best friends. He always took an interest in me whether at one of his Stores or at our house playing cards with his close friends. I will never forget at nine years old when Mr. Stern took hours to fit me in a suit at Jack's in the Dixie life building. He cared and as a nine year old I felt special. He was interested in my life ambitions, which made me realize it was important for me to be planning my future. While I didn't see him that often he was just like an uncle when I did see him! Abe Stern was a gentle giant in my life!

I grew up in Sumter; my parents were Sam and Sylvia Anderson. They both thought the world of your parents. I have many pleasant memories of talking with Mr Stern growing up. I am so sorry for your loss. Susan Anderson

Abe (Mr. Abramek) Stern was our first cousin. The only one and last we had. The last one from our family in Lodz.
His mother – Dobrish Stern (Lubochinsky), was our fathers' eldest sister.
Our father (Shmulek Lubochinsky) loved his sister and his nephews so much, and actually grew up with them more like a brother than an uncle.
Our father Shmulek had a special connection with his youngest nephew Abe, both of them survived Auschwitz.
They looked alike in so many ways – not only in their blue-sky eyes, but also in their attitude to life, their strength and commitment to work hard – no matter what. Both choose to be optimistic and look at life with a hidden smile: their humor was their secret of survival even in the darkest days of their life. Always looked at the bright side. Always were willing to help and to do the best they can. Yes – they loved reading books and talk about politics, science, human justice and culture. For them studying and become intellectual and skilled was top level. Both were the best fathers in the world.
We miss our cousin Abramek – his laughter and his warm heart – because what he meant to us and for our families.
May he rest in peace. Amen!
Bella Moli (Lubochinsky) and Tamar Ketko (Lubochinsky),

I am so glad that I had the privilege of knowing Him and calling him a friend. He loved this country and he loved Sumter. Anytime I look at shoes I remember sitting in Jacks and trying on shoes. Going into the old store at liberty and main was an experience. Praying for safe travels for the family.
