Obituary of Abe Stern

Abraham “Abe” Stern, 92, widower of Rhea Edelsburg Stern, died Friday, November 19, 2021, at Covenant Place.
Born in Lodz, Poland, he was a son of the late Chil Nusen Stern and Dobrysz Lubochinski Stern.
Mr. Stern was a member of Temple Sinai. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and was the owner and operator of Jack’s Shoe Store for over 60 years. Mr. Stern was the only Holocaust survivor in Sumter. He made a home of Sumter in 1950 and remained devoted to the community for the rest of his life.
Surviving are his son, Nat Stern (Karen) of Tallahassee, FL; two daughters, Donna Magaro (Ernie) of Columbia and Sharon Stern of Seminole, FL; four grandchildren, Mark Magaro (Kelsey), Sarah Stern (Brian), Abigail
McLeod (Devin), and Mark Joseph Stern (Tyler); one great-grandchild, Roman Magaro.
He was predeceased by a brother, Lajzer Stern; four sisters, including his twin sister Chana Stern, Sala Boden (George), Ruthie Linzer (Eddie) and Rachel Davidson (Mac); along with his in-laws, Max and Toby Edelsburg.

Graveside services will be held at 11 A.M. Sunday in the Sumter Jewish Cemetery at 701 W. Oakland Ave. (Corner of West Oakland Avenue and Artillery Drive) with Rabbi Sanford Marcus officiating.
