Obituary of William E. Reynolds, Sr.

William Evans Reynolds, Sr., 98, husband of Doris Eddleman Reynolds, died Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at his home. Born in Augusta, Georgia, he was a son of the late William Nathaniel and Willie Inez Rhodes Reynolds. Mr. Reynolds grew up in Florence, SC and moved to Sumter in the later 1930’s. He attended Clemson College, joined the Merchant Marine and completed a year of international travel and hard work. He served in the U.S. Third Army in WW II, was called back to active duty during the Korean War and remained in the Reserve, retiring in 1977 when he also retired from the U.S. Postal Service to begin a 30 year avocation with their property in the NC mountains. He was a charter member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. All who knew him shall miss his warm smile, loving generosity, strong faith, and consistently positive view of life. Colonel Reynolds is survived by his wife of 70+ years of Sumter; a son, Evans Reynolds, Jr.; a daughter, Kim Franceschi; a son, Richard Reynolds; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held at 1 P.M. Saturday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Rev. David Day, Rev. Larry Brown and Rev. Noly Berjuega officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sumter County Military Display, P. O. Box 2462, Sumter, SC 29151.
